Chxta's wall: 2009 list

Today is the last day of the year 2009. For me, this year was one that began with lows (what with the recession), but has gone on to highs (love, NEXT and SA2010). Not to sound greedy, but insha Allah, 2010 will be even better and maybe, just maybe Naija will win the World Cup. I'd like to extend my appreciation to the following people who helped make 2009 tick for me. I hope I haven't left anyone out of this list, if I have, no vex. I don dey old, and being that I was on the road all day today, I no dey see straight. Let's see if we can in 2010, reach for the stars...

That we may not forget: Age cheats

As Nigerian football prepares for the Nations Cup in just under a month, we must not forget one of the more important issues that affected our football in the year going by, the age cheating scandal. During the FIFA U-17 World Cup which Nigeria hosted, one of our football legends Adokiye Amiesimaka wrote an article in his column in The Punch newspaper where he blew the lid on Fortune Chukwudi, the captain of Nigeria's under seventeen team, whom Amiesimaka disclosed was no less than twenty five years old, eight years above the age limit FIFA approved for the tournament.

Nigerian football officials until this day have done nothing to disprove Mr. Amiesimaka's allegation, rather they joined forces with a lot of hysterical Nigerians in screaming that Amiesimaka was a traitor and that he was washing our dirty linen in public. Some people went as far as suggesting that Amiesimaka should not have made his allegation during the tournament but rather after the tournament so as not to distract the 'boys'. Time has proved those of us who kicked against that particular line of reasoning very correct. It would appear that the matter of age cheating has been forgotten, well at least for the next two years.

In another two years, another crop of Nigerian players would be picked from clubs in our Premier League, given the toga of under seventeen and told to go and kick their sons to death. Then we would wonder why our senior national team is full of 'tired legs'...

Sex education

Consider this. I'm in a bus heading from Baltimore to New York, and I'm fortunate to sit beside a girl that can only be described as eye candy. I mean this is the kind of girl that the word beautiful was invented for. Naturally, I chat her up. Who knows, maybe we could get a number, and run the shows from our little hut across the globe. During the course of our gist, I discover that by Naija standards, she's a ho. But her problem is that she was unaware.

Now, she is willing to admit that she's straffed so many guys. However, her lack of awareness is not restricted to her, and I come from climes where there are a lot of people in her shoes, but same people would claim innocence. We need to be open about sex education. Rest of article here...
